Check out Christianity Today’s take on OPEN BOOK!
“Sounds like … the sparse rock rumblings of Ryan Adams crossed with the organic, Americana underpinning of Emmylou Harris
At a glance … an intensely reflective record that digs deep into the songwriter’s emotions from childhood through today
It’s often been said that solitude can do wonder for a songwriter, and in the case of Andrew Greer, retreating to a Wyoming lodge built by Buffalo Bill Cody served as a primary muse. Not only did it keep him away from Nashville’s industry rumblings, but it also forced a soul-bearing, lyric-crafting period that ranged from reflective to regretful to redemptive . . . Andrew recently sat down with Christian music’s “Artist of the Year” to discuss a more affective matter – adoption. Joined by his articulate bride and Show Hope spearhead, the Chapman’s spoke about Maria’s lasting legacy through Maria’s Big House of Hope, China’s new six-story facility that will take immediate care for orphans deemed “special needs.” ( See video here.)
Andrew also reviewed the controversial new record by complicated songster, Derek Webb, as well as four-star releases by Aaron Shust, Melinda Doolittle, Jason Crabb, Melinda Watts, Project86, Ginny Owens and Skillet’s upcoming “Awake.”
Check out his special “Redirecting the Spotlight” podcast with Travis Cottrell, a recap on a LIVE confrontation on the “fashion” of social justice by authors Donald Miller and David Dark, and read other recent article by visiting Andrew’s “Words” page here.
